Juan Carlos Ferrero not closed to coaching Jannik Sinner, L’Équipe reports
Former world number one tennis player Juan Carlos Ferrero has stated that he would not rule out coaching Jannik Sinner in the future, noting in an interview with Punto de break that having previously coached Carlos Alcaraz does not permanently disqualify someone from managing his primary rival, L’Équipe reported.
Juan Carlos Ferrero Explores a Return to the ATP Circuit
Juan Carlos Ferrero, who is 46 years old, ended a lengthy coaching partnership with Carlos Alcaraz in December 2025. During that collaboration, Alcaraz secured six Grand Chelem titles. Since that split, Ferrero has received multiple inquiries from various players across the professional circuit, including Flavio Cobolli.
Despite those offers, Ferrero expressed a desire to return to active coaching soon. He noted that he would only return for an opportunity that genuinely excites and fulfills him.
Targeting Experienced Players Rather Than Developing Juniors
Reflecting on his future role on the tour, Ferrero explained that he prefers established athletes over developing youngsters. Working with Alcaraz required a substantial investment of time to build up every dimension of the player’s game from an early age.
Ferrero stated that today he would lean toward a player who is a bit more advanced and already more formed, and who does not require the coach to be at 200% every single day, as detailed by Sports.fr.
Addressing Potential Speculation Regarding Jannik Sinner
When asked about media speculation linking him to Jannik Sinner for the 2027 season, Ferrero maintained that accepting such a role would stem from a desire for career progression rather than malice toward his former charge. He acknowledged that fans might misinterpret the timing if a partnership had formed immediately following his split from Alcaraz, but emphasized that an entire year has now passed.
Ferrero remarked that if he joined Jannik’s team in the future, it would never be to annoy Carlos. He stressed that transitioning between top competitors is standard practice in professional sports, adding a request that the public respect his ultimate career decisions while affirming his ongoing goodwill toward Alcaraz.
