Joe Burrow Declares He Won’t Play ‘Scared’ After Injury Recovery
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow emphatically stated he will not alter his playing style due to past injuries, asserting he’s a football player who accepts the inherent risks of the game. Burrow made the comments during a press conference Monday, following an Instagram post on Nov. 24 signaling his return from injury.
Burrow’s remarks address concerns about his durability after previously suffering injuries, including an ankle injury sustained during a Week 2 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars in September. The quarterback emphasized his commitment to rigorous rehabilitation and a relentless pursuit of returning to the field as quickly as possible, but maintained he won’t compromise his approach to the game out of fear of re-injury. His return is crucial for the Bengals’ playoff hopes as they navigate a competitive AFC landscape.
“I understand why people feel that way,” Burrow said, referring to concerns about his health. “But you look at it from my viewpoint. I’m a football player. And if I get hurt, I’m gonna go through the rehab process. And then I’m gonna let everybody know when I feel like I can go out ther and play. I don’t really know what else to say about that. I’m not gonna ever go to somebody and say, ‘Yeah, I’m healthy, but, you know, I don’t think I should go out there and play.'”
Burrow continued, stating, “That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I’m not gonna live my life and play this game scared of something happening. Like yeah, something’s gonna happen. It’s football. Guys are gonna get hurt. … It’s a physical, intense game. that’s part of this. And yeah, I’ve had injuries. There’s not a lot I can do about that. I’ve worked really hard to have that not happen. But what I can do is when it does happen, I can control how I’m attacking my rehab and attacking practise and doing everything in my power to get back as quickly as possible. That’s what I did.”
