“Sentimental Value” Leads European Film Award Nominations with Five Bids
Berlin – Joachim Trier‘s “Sentimental Value” has received five nominations for the European Film Awards, announced today. The film, which secured the Jury Prize at Cannes and is Norway‘s submission for the Best International Film Oscar, is recognized in the categories of Best European Film, Best European Director (joachim Trier), Best European Screenwriter (Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt), Best European Actor (Stellan Skarsgård), and Best European Actress (Renate Reinsve).
The nominations underscore the film’s critical acclaim and position it as a frontrunner for Europe’s moast prestigious cinematic honors.The European Film Awards, frequently enough described as a “European film championship,” will hold its 38th edition on January 17, 2026, in Berlin. This year’s selection was drawn from a shortlist of 44 films, including five co-productions from Film i Väst, highlighting the region’s growing influence in European cinema.
“Sentimental Value” is a co-production of Mer Film and Eye Eye Pictures, alongside Film i Väst, Zentropa, Zentropa Sweden, MK Productions, Lumen Production, and Komplizen Film. Other Film i Väst co-productions also recognized on the shortlist include “Mother” (Teona Strugar Mitevska), “palestine 36” (annemarie Jacir), “The Last Viking” (Anders Thomas Jensen), and “The Love That Remains” (Hlynur Pálmason). Rúnar Rúnarsson’s “O (Circle)” was previously shortlisted in the “Short Film – Prix Vimeo” category.
