Jimmy Kimmel mocks Donald Trump over GOAT label and Iran remarks
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel targeted Donald Trump during his Tuesday night monologue, mocking his approval ratings, his self-applied label as the greatest of all time, and his comments about California cities.
Monologue Mocks Approval Ratings and Rally Remarks
Kimmel opened his segment by examining Trump’s public statements during a recent campaign rally. “As his approval rating gets lower, somehow his engine fills up with more and more self-esteem,” Kimmel said. The broadcast rolled footage of Trump declaring himself the “GOAT” or “greatest of all time.”
“It’s so sad,” Kimmel said on air. “He might be the most insecure person in the history of the world. Remember when we all used to hate people who talked like that? ‘I’m the GOAT.’ This one we made president.”
The late-night host also addressed comments Trump made regarding Los Angeles and San Diego. Kimmel labeled the remarks about those cities being “taken out” by Iran as “truly appalling” and “one of the craziest, most indefensible statements I have ever heard even this maniac make.” The White House defended the remarks, claiming Trump was not calling for Iran to bomb those cities, but rather stating that he wanted to prevent such an outcome.
Kimmel acknowledged the rapid news cycle surrounding Trump. “I know he says a lot of crazy things. I know this is something we’ll forget about by Thursday when he accidentally swallows a baby at a rally or whatever the hell he does next,” he told his studio audience.
Kimmel Jokes About Gavin Newsom and Melania Trump
Shifting focus to local politics, Kimmel suggested a potential motive for Trump’s criticism of California. The show aired footage from earlier this year showing California Governor Gavin Newsom greeting First Lady Melania Trump with a kiss.
“Our governor got farther with his wife than he has in 15 years,” Kimmel joked during the Tuesday night broadcast. “That’s right. And she’s been California dreamin’ ever since.”
