Tom Waits Returns to Jim Jarmusch‘s World in First Look at ’Father Mother Sister Brother’
A new trailer has emerged for Father Mother Sister Brother, the upcoming film from director Jim Jarmusch, showcasing a prominent role for musician and actor Tom Waits alongside a stellar cast including Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, and Luka Sabbat. The teaser, released by Mubi, offers a first glimpse into Jarmusch’s latest project, slated for a December 24th theatrical release in the U.S.
This marks the fourth collaboration between Jarmusch and Waits, a partnership stretching back nearly four decades. The film itself is structured as a triptych, exploring the complex dynamics within families – specifically, the relationships between adult children, their ofen-distant parents, and each other – across three distinct narratives set in different countries. Father Mother sister Brother will have its world premiere this Sunday,august 31st,at the Venice Film Festival.
Jarmusch’s return to feature filmmaking follows 2019’s The Dead don’t Die.The new film’s premise,as detailed in a press release,centers on these interwoven stories of familial connection and distance. Waits’ previous work with Jarmusch includes appearances in Down by Law (1986), Coffee and Cigarettes (2003), and The Dead Don’t Die, and also composing the soundtrack for Night on Earth (1991).
