Cowboys’ Jerry Jones Signals Help is Coming at Cornerback,Aubrey extension Looming
Dallas Cowboys owner jerry Jones indicated the team is poised to receive reinforcements at cornerback with the anticipated return of rookie Shavon Revel, while also confirming contract extension talks are progressing with kicker Brandon Aubrey. Jones addressed both situations and the team’s overall performance following Sunday’s overtime victory against the New York Giants.
Revel, a third-round pick, is recovering from an ACL injury sustained during his final year at East Carolina. Jones lauded Revel as “one of the best corners as a young corner that I’ve seen us put on the roster,” projecting his availability after the fourth game of the season. The Cowboys have been without DaRon Bland, but Jones expressed confidence in internal solutions.
Regarding Aubrey, Jones stated an extension is “certainly coming,” adding, “he’s certainly in the future.” Discussions have already begun as Aubrey’s game-winning 46-yard kick against the Giants, suggesting a deal is imminent. Aubrey was instrumental in the win, hitting all four field goal attempts, including the tying kick at the end of regulation and the game-winner in overtime.
Jones also highlighted strong performances from Dak Prescott, Kenny Clark, Javonte Williams, and the Cowboys’ interior defensive line in the win over New York. however, he expressed concern with the play of offensive tackles Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele, stating, “We’ll get better play than we had from Guyton.” He added, “He can do better than that.” The Cowboys face the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
The Cowboys have recently finalized extensions with key players including Jake Ferguson, Bland, Hunter Luepke, and Tyler Smith. Cooper Beebe is sidelined for 6-8 weeks with an injury.
