Jerry Adler, a character actor best known for his roles as Lana Gardner’s mobster boyfriend, Herman “Uncle Mac” Maccormack, in HBO’s “The Sopranos” and Howard Lyman in the CBS legal drama “The Good Wife,” has died at the age of 96. His death was announced on august 21, 2024.
Born on October 18, 1927, in New York City, Adler began his acting career relatively late in life, at the age of 65, after a career in advertising. He quickly found success in television and film, often portraying tough, no-nonsense characters.
Adler’s portrayal of Uncle Mac in “The Sopranos” (1999-2007) earned him widespread recognition. He appeared in 13 episodes of the critically acclaimed series, becoming a memorable figure in the show’s complex world of organized crime. According to reports, Adler initially took the role expecting a single appearance, but his performance resonated with producers, leading to recurring appearances.
