Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith Addresses Cotton Bowl Frustration, Looks Ahead to Championship Aspirations
LAS VEGAS, NV – Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith expressed his candid feelings about being held without a reception in the recent Cotton Bowl, acknowledging the frustration but emphasizing his team-first mentality and the ultimate goal of a national championship.
Speaking at Big Ten Media Days on July 22, 2025, in Las Vegas, Smith reflected on the team’s performance in the Cotton Bowl. “It was pretty frustrating for me,” Smith admitted. “But you’ve just got to be a team player at the end of the day just let the other guys eat. So nothing too big. I mean,I was frustrated at the end of the game,but we went to the National Championship,so I was happy with it.”
Smith is poised to enter his sophomore season as a leading figure for the Ohio State Buckeyes, with the team aiming for consecutive national titles. In his freshman campaign, Smith recorded 76 receptions for 1,315 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, earning him both the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Big Ten Wide Receiver of the Year accolades.
His standout performance was further recognized as he was named a unanimous Big Ten preseason honoree, the sole unanimous selection among the 15 players selected for the preseason recognition.
