Jeonju Seeks 2029 Badminton World Championships & Olympics

Jeonju City Launches‍ Bid for 2029 World Badminton Championships, Eyes olympic Synergy

PARIS, FRANCE – A delegation from Jeonju City, South Korea, led by Korea ‍Badminton Association President⁢ Kim Dong-moon ⁢and Deputy Mayor Yoon Dong-wook, has formally presented a proposal too the Badminton World Federation ​(BWF) to host the 2029 World​ Badminton Championships. The pitch, delivered during a visit ‌to the 2025 World Badminton Championships in ​Paris, highlights Jeonju’s ⁤growing sports infrastructure‌ and ambition to become ‍a global hub for badminton.

The move signals Jeonju’s intent to leverage a new,state-of-the-art multi-purpose indoor⁤ gymnasium and its experience hosting international ⁢events⁢ to secure the prestigious tournament. City officials also emphasized the⁤ potential⁣ for synergy with⁢ future Olympic bids, positioning​ Jeonju as a key player in South Korea’s broader sporting ‍ambitions. the 2029⁣ Championships represent a significant opportunity to elevate badminton’s​ profile within the country​ and attract ⁢international tourism.

Jeonju‌ City officials underscored‌ the city’s existing strengths – including experience hosting international conventions, robust cultural and tourism resources, and ongoing efforts to expand the base of badminton participation – during meetings with⁣ BWF President kuning Pattama Lis Wadrarin Cool. A‌ key component of the proposal centers on the multi-purpose ‌indoor gymnasium currently under construction in Jangdong⁤ Complex Sports Town, near ⁣Jeonju World Cup Stadium.⁢ The facility, ‌slated for completion ​in the first half of 2027, ⁤will⁣ span 23,400 square meters with a total floor area of 188,53㎡ and accommodate 5,000 spectators.It is designed ‍to meet international game standards for badminton, basketball, volleyball,⁣ and handball.

Beyond the BWF presentation, the delegation engaged with representatives‍ from the‍ French‌ Embassy, ‍the Governor of ⁣the Republic of Korea, and the French Korean association to⁤ explore broader opportunities for sports and cultural exchange. South Korea is fielding 13 athletes at the current Paris ⁢competition, ​and Jeonju intends to build⁢ on this momentum through increased international engagement in readiness ‌for both the⁣ 2029 Championships and potential future Olympic bids.

“Jeonju⁢ is a sports and cultural convergence city with experiences‌ of holding international events such⁢ as Jeonju Hanok Village and various global cultural heritages,” stated Deputy Mayor Yoon Dong-wook. “We are confident that we can ⁤deliver a world-class event and contribute⁤ to the continued growth of badminton ‍globally.”
