Frisco,TX – Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue says he’s “very confident” as he prepares for a potential NFL debut against the New York Jets this Sunday, following weeks of focused improvement and encouragement from the coaching staff. Blue, a third-round pick out of LSU, has been working to refine his consistency in practice and planning, addressing concerns raised by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
Blue acknowledged Schottenheimer informed him approximately two weeks ago that while his talent was evident, greater consistency was needed to earn playing time. “He let me know that I needed to be a little more consistent, because the talent level was there,” Blue said. “He just told me I coudl be more consistent, and I was kind of seeing it for myself.” He responded by concentrating on the finer details of the game, both in practice and film study.
The rookie emphasized the importance of finishing plays correctly, diligent playbook study, and meticulous attention to detail. “Just making sure that I’m finishing the right way and practicing hard. Staying in the playbook, just making sure that I’m doing the small details right so I can be able to perform at the highest level…” Blue explained. He also focused on being “more detailed” in his preparation, ensuring he’s “being where I was supposed to be on time, being engaged in meetings and stuff like that.”
Blue has leaned on veteran teammates Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders for guidance, describing them as players who “do all the things right” and practice with the professionalism he aspires to. “Javonte and Miles are two older guys in the room, they do all the things right. They practice the right way and those are two guys that I talk to every day and I’m very close with,” he said.
Now, the Cowboys coaches have delivered a simple message: trust his abilities and play. “They know I have the talent, they know I know what I’m doing. Just go out there and have fun is the message they tell me,” Blue stated. “Don’t go out there tight, just go out there and play the game the right way.”
