Jan Josef Liefers and Anna Loos Consider Leaving Berlin for Dresden
Jan Josef Liefers and Anna Loos consider a move from Berlin to Dresden
Actor Jan Josef Liefers and his wife, actress Anna Loos, are considering leaving Berlin to establish a new home in Dresden, prompted by their changing family life and a desire for a fresh start.
Family freedom opens the door to a new city
The couple has been married for more than 20 years and shares two daughters. With their younger daughter now turning 18 and preparing to move out, Liefers and Loos find themselves with newfound independence. In an interview with the magazine Superillu, Liefers explained the shift by stating that they are now free because their children are grown and the youngest is ready to leave.
Dresden emerges as the favored destination
While the couple has not yet announced finalized moving plans, Dresden stands out as the primary choice for their potential relocation. Liefers was born in the Saxon capital in August 1964 and spent his childhood and youth there, growing up in the Gruna district and later the inner city. However, the initial push for the move came from Loos. Liefers noted in the Superillu interview that they visit the city frequently and that his wife loves Dresden.

The Berlin Kurier details a public revelation
According to reporting by the Berliner Kurier, the couple made the idea public on October 10, 2026, while standing on the stage of the Dresden Schauspielhaus during the 18th Hope-Gala. Liefers surprised the audience by bringing Loos into the spotlight and revealing what she had asked him: whether they should move to Dresden. Liefers added on stage that the question was meant seriously, while Loos hinted that the thought arose due to developments in Berlin.
A return to early theatrical roots
The potential move carries deep personal significance for Liefers, connecting his current life stage with the beginnings of his career. Before achieving widespread fame—including his long-running role as eccentric forensic pathologist Professor Karl-Friedrich Boerne in the Münster Tatort series—he completed a carpentry apprenticeship at the Dresden Staatsschauspiel and worked there behind the scenes as a stage technician. At the Hope-Gala, where he performed five songs with his band Radio Doria without a fee to help raise funds for disadvantaged children in South Africa, he reflected on those early days, noting that returning to the place where his childhood, youth, and career began means a great deal to him.
What remains undecided
Decisions regarding the exact timeline or the formal sale of their Berlin residence have not been publicly disclosed. While the Berliner Kurier notes that Berlin could soon lose two of its most prominent residents, both outlets emphasize that no final relocation has been officially executed, leaving open whether the couple will move to Dresden.
