James Madison defeated Longwood 6-1 in a Mid-American Conference field hockey match at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field in Farmville, Virginia. The Dukes scored five unanswered goals in the second half to secure their third win of the season.

The Mid-American Conference field hockey match saw the Dukes improve their record to 3-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Longwood dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in the MAC.

How did James Madison score six goals against Longwood?

The scoring began moments before the first-quarter whistle when Azul Covarrubias converted a penalty corner for James Madison, with a stop by Avery Ruckman and an insertion from Diede Donders. Covarrubias’s goal marked her first since September 10, 2023.

Longwood answered early in the third period when Sawyer Anderson tapped in a corner on the left post. That equalizer lasted less than a minute. Ava Drexler-Amey stole the ball in Lancer territory, drove through multiple defenders, and sent a backhand shot past Longwood goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk.

At the 9:00 mark of the third quarter, Brynna Hill connected with a darting Ruckman on the left post, who chipped the ball around Mooldijk to extend the lead to 3-1. In the fourth quarter, Emilia Goldsmith tapped in a rebound, and Emma Smit added two late goals to seal the 6-1 win.

James Madison outshot Longwood 23-4 and held an 18-1 advantage in shots on goal. Longwood goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk recorded 12 saves during the match, while Lilly Sweeney played in goal for James Madison.

Nine different players registered points for the Dukes during the contest. Diede Donders recorded a pair of assists, becoming the first James Madison player to tally multiple assists in a single game since October 19, 2025.
