James Hassell Named Big South Men’s Golfer of the Week
High Point’s James Hassell and Charleston Southern’s Henry Crowe earned the Big South Men’s Golfer and Freshman of the Week honors for events played September 24 through 30, bigsouthsports.com reported.
James Hassell Claims Golfer of the Week After Third-Place Finish
James Hassell secured the conference’s Golfer of the Week award following a strong performance at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Vero Beach, Florida native finished third overall in the 90-player field on the par-72, 7,120-yard course. He carded a 7-under par 209 with rounds of 67, 71, and 71. Hassell earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team while recording his highest placement of the fall season.
Hassell stood out as the only individual in the entire field to finish under-par across all three rounds. He carded 11 birdies over his 54 holes of play and positioned himself among the tournament leaders in par-5 scoring at 7-under.
Henry Crowe Earns Freshman Honors with First Top-10 Finish
Henry Crowe picked up the Men’s Freshman of the Week selection after tying for fifth place at the same tournament. The Boca Raton, Florida native shot a 5-under par 211 with rounds of 70, 73, and 68 to capture his first career top-10 finish. Crowe also landed on the All-Tournament Team.
Crowe tallied 12 birdies during the event and finished as the second-highest scorer among the 28 Big South golfers in the field. His final-round 68 allowed him to climb six spots on the leaderboard. He tied for second overall in par-3 scoring at 1-under, tied for fourth in par-4 scoring at 2-under, and finished 2-under on the par-5 layouts.
