Wibi Calls on Jakarta Aquatics to Prioritize Local Youth Talent
Jakarta City Council Deputy Chair Wibi Andrino urged the newly appointed Jakarta Aquatics Provincial Board for the 2026-2030 term to pivot away from relying heavily on recruiting athletes from outside the region. Wibi emphasized that building a sustainable talent pipeline must begin at an early age through structured coordination between municipal agencies.
“We should not focus solely on recruiting athletes from outside Jakarta. Instead, we need to ensure that athlete development starts at an early age,” Wibi said on Friday, October 30, 2026.
The call comes as the regional sports administration transitions to new leadership under Ade Jona, who takes over the provincial board with a mandate to elevate local athletic competitiveness.
Pramono Targets Overall Title at 2028 National Sports Week
Pramono set a target for Jakarta to secure the overall championship at the 2028 National Sports Week, known as PON, positioning the aquatics discipline as a primary medal contributor for the contingent.
Achieving this competitive milestone requires using existing municipal infrastructure rather than hiring external talent. Wibi pointed out that Jakarta currently maintains internationally standardized aquatic sports facilities. These venues must function as active hubs for grassroots talent nurturing, sophisticated athlete management systems, and specialized healthcare services.
“This will ensure that our athletes are in peak condition when they compete at PON. Management and support systems must also be of the highest standard,” Wibi emphasized.
