The Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed railway, known locally as Whoosh, has experienced a notable surge in ridership, with passenger numbers increasing by 6.3% between January and October of this year. According to data released by its operator, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), over 5.1 million passengers have utilized the service during this period.
Indonesia china (KCIC)">“The rise in passenger numbers demonstrates growing public trust in the Whoosh high-speed train as a fast and reliable mode of transportation between Jakarta and Bandung,” stated Eva chairunisa, KCIC’s Corporate Secretary General Manager.
Since commencing commercial operations in October 2023, Whoosh has transported a cumulative total exceeding 12.2 million passengers. This milestone underscores the railway’s importance as a flagship collaborative project between Indonesia and China in the realm of modern transportation infrastructure.
Factors Contributing to Increased Ridership
Several key factors have contributed to this growth.KCIC reports an increase in daily services to 62 trips, considerably enhancing capacity. The recent opening of the Karawang station has also played a crucial role, expanding accessibility and bolstering regional connectivity.
furthermore, improved integration with other modes of transport at all Whoosh stations has streamlined travel for passengers, providing convenient connections to airports, city centers, and popular tourist destinations throughout Jakarta, Karawang, and the Greater Bandung area.
Operating at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, the high-speed railway dramatically reduces travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from approximately three hours to just 45 minutes. This represents a substantial time saving for commuters and travelers alike.
