Jacksonville Jaguars Trade Tyson Campbell to Cleveland browns for Greg Newsome II
The Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns have agreed to a trade involving cornerbacks, NFL Network reported Wednesday night.Jacksonville is sending Tyson Campbell and a 2026 seventh-round pick to Cleveland in exchange for Greg Newsome II and a 2026 sixth-round selection.
This move arrives approximately six months after the Browns traded the No.2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Jaguars, who afterward drafted Travis hunter – another cornerback and wide receiver. The trade reshapes both teams’ cornerback rooms ahead of the 2025 season, providing Jacksonville with a potentially more affordable option in Newsome while the Browns gain a proven starter in Campbell.
Newsome, a 2021 first-round pick, has started every game for the Browns this season and is entering the final year of his rookie contract, with a $13.3 million salary due in 2024 after his fifth-year option was exercised. Campbell, selected in the same draft class (33rd second round) just seven spots after Newsome (26th overall), signed a four-year, $76 million extension with the Jaguars in the summer of 2024, carrying a $10.5 million cap number and $13.1 million in guaranteed salary for 2026.
The trade comes after the Browns recently moved veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals, signaling continued roster adjustments by Cleveland general Manager Andrew Berry. While Newsome was drafted by Berry,Campbell was not selected by current Jaguars GM James Gladstone.
