Jack White and Chris Robinson Cover Free’s I’m A Mover Live in Chicago
Jack White brought out The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson to cover Free’s 1969 blues-rock track ‘I’m A Mover’ at Radius in Chicago on Thursday night, July 23, marking the first time either musician has publicly performed the song.
The surprise collaboration unfolded midway through White’s headline set on his current North American tour. With Robinson stepping up to handle lead vocal duties, White concentrated entirely on guitar, driving a raw, high-energy rendition alongside his touring band. The performance added a notable classic-rock centerpiece to a night heavily anchored in blues traditions, which also featured a rendition of Robert Johnson’s ‘Phonograph Blues’.
Tour Trajectory and New Material Integration
The Chicago tour stop follows the early July release of White’s seventh solo studio record, ‘Frozen Charlotte’, issued via Third Man Records on July 10. The album marks White’s fourth full-length release in five years, following a prolific stretch that included 2022’s ‘Fear Of The Dawn’ and ‘Entering Heaven Alive’, alongside 2024’s ‘No Name’. In a three-and-a-half-star review for NME, critic Andrew Trendell noted that while the record may not rank among White’s absolute classic work, “it’s good fun” and proves that “White doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel when he can give you one hell of a ride on his own.”
Live audiences are getting a direct test of that material alongside vintage cuts. Alongside tracks from ‘Frozen Charlotte’, White’s recent setlists have continuously spotlighted White Stripes favorites including ‘Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground’, ‘Icky Thump’, and ‘Seven Nation Army’. Guest appearances have also marked early highlights of the current run. During the opening weekend of the North American tour at the Brooklyn Paramount, White brought out his 19-year-old daughter Scarlett to play bass on ‘Cannon’, ‘John The Revelator’, and ‘Math’, continuing a familial performance tradition that previously touched stages at New York’s Irving Plaza in 2025 and Nashville’s Third Man Records Blue Room in 2023.

Following Thursday’s Chicago appearance, White’s itinerary moves immediately to a hometown-area performance at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, on Friday, July 25. From there, the tour crosses the Atlantic for an extensive UK and Ireland leg in August. Confirmed international routing features two nights at London’s Eventim Apollo on August 25 and 26, followed by stops in Bristol, Newcastle, Belfast, and a two-night stand at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre. Additional North American concerts are booked to run through September, October, and November, with remaining tickets available through standard primary and secondary ticketing outlets.
