In a recent statement, the police reported that one person filed a notice of the planned march on 28 June 2025 in Budapest. During the investigation, the Budapest Police Directorate turned to the relevant local authority, which replied that at the same place and the same time as the proposed assembly is planned by the city action. The event entitled “Budapest Pride” organized by the City Hall in Budapest was forbidden by the police because of the reasonable suspicion that its aim was to organize a meeting that violates the laws of gathering.
The organizers did not start negotiations with the authorities and although they knew about the ban, they communicated in violation of it: they called on people to the assembly claiming that it was not illegal. In view of this, the police will not start proceedings against the parties.
