Istanbul Airport tops Condé Nast Traveller Awards, says VnExpress
Istanbul Airport has claimed the top spot in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, scoring 94.29 out of 100 to narrowly displace Singapore Changi Airport, which secured second place with 93.92 points, VnExpress reported.
Infrastructure and Capacity at the Leading Global Hubs
The Turkish facility operates from one of the world’s largest single-roof terminal buildings. It serves as the primary base for Turkish Airlines, connecting travelers to over 122 countries. Passenger amenities at the Istanbul hub include sleep pods and therapy dogs.
By contrast, Singapore Changi Airport spans four terminals covering more than one million square meters, an area equivalent to 156 football fields. The Singapore hub features luxury hotels, duty-free shopping, and the world’s largest indoor waterfall. Automated check-ins and biometric authentication allow passengers to complete immigration procedures in just one minute at Changi.
Changi Airport Apologizes for Luggage Delivery Delays
Singapore Changi has encountered intensifying competition from international hubs alongside negative reviews from travelers. Visitors reported that while immigration clearance remained swift, luggage delivery times fell short. Some passengers experienced wait times of up to 45 minutes for checked bags, prompting the airport operator to issue a public apology and pledge operational improvements.
The Readers’ Choice Awards represent the travel industry’s longest-running program recognizing excellence across hotels, resorts, and destinations worldwide. The complete top ten list for the year places Istanbul first and Singapore Changi second, followed by Dubai International in third and Copenhagen, Denmark in fourth. Zurich, Switzerland takes fifth place, with Hamad International in Qatar ranking sixth. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas in Spain, Hong Kong International, Cape Town International in South Africa, and Rome Fiumicino in Italy round out the remaining positions in the global standings.
