amnesty International Accuses Israel of Continuing Genocide in Gaza
Gaza City - Amnesty International has condemned what it calls Israel’s ongoing pattern of conduct in Gaza, asserting it continues to meet the definition of genocide under international law.The organization leveled the accusation amid ongoing concerns over the purposeful denial of lifesaving aid to Palestinians in the territory, manny of whom are injured, malnourished, and at risk of disease.
The allegations come as Gaza remains devastated following the war initiated by Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. Amnesty International’s statement follows a september 2025 report by an independent UN commission of inquiry which concluded that “genocide is occurring in Gaza” - a claim Israel has vehemently denied. The UN inquiry found Israeli authorities and forces had, as October 2023, committed four of the five genocidal acts defined by the 1948 Genocide Convention: killing members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, and preventing births. The fifth act, forcibly transferring children, was not definitively persistent.
“israel’s pattern of conduct in Gaza, including the deliberate, unlawful denial of lifesaving aid to Palestinians…continues to threaten their survival,” said Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary General.
The International Court of Justice last year issued an order requiring Israel “to prevent and punish the direct and public incitement to commit genocide” in Gaza.
The conflict began wiht Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, resulting in 1,221 deaths. Israel’s subsequent military response in Gaza has, according to figures from the territory’s health ministry considered reliable by the UN, killed at least 69,799 Palestinians. Since a ceasefire took effect, the health ministry reports an additional 352 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire.
