Experts Accuse Israel of Genocide as Gaza Offensive Looms
Gaza City – As Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet late Sunday to discuss a new offensive targeting Gaza City, a growing chorus of experts are accusing Israel of committing genocide in the besieged enclave. The planned offensive aims to seize what Netanyahu has described as the “bastion of Hamas,” despite warnings from Israel’s military that it could endanger the remaining hostages held by the group.
The accusations stem from the scale of civilian deaths and the unfolding humanitarian crisis in gaza, where over 63,000 people, predominantly civilians, have been killed as the conflict began on October 7th,2023,following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel that killed approximately 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and led to the capture of 251 hostages.Twenty of those hostages are believed to still be alive. The devastation has left much of Gaza in ruins and triggered a severe humanitarian catastrophe.
Israel’s military has cautioned its political leaders about the risks to hostages during the proposed Gaza City offensive. meanwhile, protests within Israel demanding an end to the war and the release of hostages have gained momentum in recent weeks.
