International Committee Accuses Israel of Genocide as Ground Operations in Gaza Expand
GENEVA/GAZA – An self-reliant international investigation committee examining the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories has concluded that Israel is committing acts of “genocide” with the intent to “eliminate the Palestinians.” The committee alleges Israel has committed four of the five acts defined as constituting genocide under the 1948 United Nations Convention.
According to a report published Tuesday, these acts include “killing and targeting civilians, causing physical or psychological harm to members of the group, the abuse of detainees, forced displacement, and the destruction of the environment,” as well as imposing conditions intended to prevent Palestinian childbirth. Committee head Francesca Albanese stated ther are “reasonable grounds” to reach this conclusion.
the Israeli Foreign Ministry vehemently rejected the report as “biased and antisemitic,” calling for the committee’s immediate dissolution and accusing its members of functioning as “mouthpieces of Hamas” with a “known record of public antisemitic approval.”
The accusations come as Israel expands its ground operation within the Gaza Strip. Israeli military officials confirmed Tuesday they launched raids targeting what they described as “military infrastructure” belonging to the Houthi movement in the Yemeni port of Hodeidah. Israel alleges the Houthis are utilizing the port to “transfer combat means belonging to the Iranian regime, which it uses to implement terrorist plans against the State of Israel and its allies.”
Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraei stated on X (formerly Twitter) that the raids followed repeated attacks by the Houthis, including the launch of surface-to-surface missiles toward Israel, and that the army had called for the port’s evacuation prior to the strikes.
The Houthis claimed their air defenses “confronted” the Israeli aircraft and caused “major disruption” forcing some aircraft to retreat. Later Tuesday, the Israeli army announced it intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, triggering air raid sirens across Israel.
