iOS 26.4 Update: New Features, AI Enhancements & How to Download
Apple on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, released iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4, major software updates for its iPhone and iPad devices, respectively. The releases follow months after the initial launch of the operating systems and introduce artificial intelligence-powered features alongside usability enhancements.
The iOS 26.4 update introduces enhancements to Apple’s audio experience, including a beta version of “Playlist Playground” within Apple Music. This feature allows users to automatically generate playlists based on text prompts describing a mood, occasion, or activity, according to Apple’s announcement. The update also enables offline audio identification via the Control Center, displaying results automatically upon reconnection to the internet.
Further expanding audio capabilities, iOS 26.4 includes “Ambient Music,” a tool enabling users to play curated playlists for sleep, relaxation, or focus directly from the home screen. These playlists are accompanied by full-screen backgrounds and visual representations of the audio.
Accessibility improvements are also a key component of the update. Apple has added options to reduce the intensity of bright light effects when interacting with interface elements. Users now have easier access to translation and caption settings while viewing content and enhancements have been made to the Reduce Motion feature for those sensitive to visual effects. These changes reflect Apple’s response to user feedback regarding the design of its operating systems.
Beyond core functionality, the iOS 26.4 update includes eight new emojis, advanced tools for image generation and editing within the Freeform app, and access to a paid content library through Apple Creator Studio. The update also allows for the prioritization and filtering of urgent reminders within smart lists, and grants adult Family Sharing members the ability to use their own payment methods.
Apple simultaneously released visionOS 26.4 for its Vision Pro headset, watchOS 26.4 for Apple Watch, and macOS 26.4 for Mac computers. In addition to the primary updates, Apple also issued security-focused updates for older devices, including iOS 18.7.7, iPadOS 18.7.7, macOS 15.7.5, macOS 14.8.5, watchOS 8.8.2, and watchOS 5.3.10, addressing recently discovered vulnerabilities.
The iOS 26.4 update is available as an over-the-air download through the Settings app, under “General” and then “Software Update,” for compatible devices.
