iOS 26.3, Siri Delays & Apple’s Product Pipeline: Top Stories This Week
Apple this week released iOS 26.3, a software update for iPhones that includes a new tool to facilitate switching to Android devices, alongside security improvements and adjustments to Weather wallpapers. The release comes as the company navigates delays in planned features for its next major software update, iOS 26.4, and continues to hold back significant hardware announcements.
The iOS 26.3 update, which followed nearly two months of beta testing, offers a relatively modest set of changes, according to reports. Beyond the new Android transfer tool, users will identify tweaks to the Astronomy and Weather wallpaper galleries. A new feature allowing for cellular location limiting with select service providers has also been included, according to 9to5Mac.
Though, attention is already turning to iOS 26.4, which was expected to deliver substantial improvements to Siri. Those improvements, centered around a more personalized experience, are now facing potential delays. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple has “run into snags” during testing of the new Siri, potentially pushing the rollout of new capabilities to iOS 26.5 or even iOS 27.
The delay in Siri’s overhaul comes as Apple prepares to integrate Gemini, developed by Google, as the engine behind the upgraded Siri and Apple Intelligence features. The timing of this integration, and the broader smart home ecosystem revamp, may be impacted by the current setbacks, according to reports.
On the hardware front, Apple continues to withhold announcements of anticipated products. While no new hardware was released this week, retail stores are reportedly experiencing shortages of iPhone 16e and iPad Air models, potentially signaling an imminent update to those lines. The iPhone 17e, in particular, is viewed as “imminent” and is expected to include support for MagSafe charging.
Consumers considering a MacBook Pro purchase may also desire to exercise caution. While the entry-level MacBook Pro received an M5 chip update in October, more powerful models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are expected shortly. However, these updates are anticipated to be incremental speed bumps, with a major redesign – including OLED displays with touchscreen capabilities – slated for later this year.
Apple has at least ten new products planned for release in the coming months, encompassing both iterative updates and entirely new offerings. The potential delays to the revamped Siri may influence the timing of some of these launches.
Looking further ahead, rumors suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max could feature a significantly increased battery capacity, potentially ranging from 5,100 to 5,200 mAh. Apple is also reportedly exploring camera improvements for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, including a variable aperture on the main camera and a wider fixed aperture on the telephoto lens, while attempting to manage rising component costs.
