Investigation Into the Murder of Pregnant María Camila Potosí in Cali

July 25, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

María Camila Potosí, who was eight months pregnant, was found murdered in Cali, Colombia, after being reported missing alongside her unborn child. According to El Tiempo and Canal Trece, investigators questioned the female motorcycle driver who transported Potosí on the day of her disappearance, as authorities investigate an alleged scheme involving fake pregnancies and the theft of the unborn baby.

The Investigation and Judicial Proceedings in Cali

The judicial process centers on the woman who drove the motorcycle on which María Camila Potosí was last seen alive in Cali. According to reporting by El Tiempo, the suspect’s expartner told investigators that the woman had allegedly faked two prior pregnancies. Authorities are examining whether this pattern of deception relates to the disappearance of Potosí and the theft of her eight-month-old fetus.

Cali Mayor Alejandro Eder addressed the unfolding case in statements reported by Revista Semana. According to Eder, municipal and police authorities are coordinating closely to trace the circumstances of the crime and establish accountability for the violent death of the young mother.

National Security and Public Protection Concerns

The incident has intensified national concern over violence directed at expectant mothers in Colombia. The Office of the Ombudsman (Defensoría del Pueblo de Colombia) issued formal statements highlighting that a series of recent femicides across different regions, paired with the disappearance of an unborn infant, demand urgent preventive and protective measures from the state.

As the legal proceedings continue in Cali, the case underscores the critical need for inter-agency coordination between local law enforcement and national human rights monitors to protect vulnerable demographics.
