France 3’s Interiors expands nationwide, championed by antique dealer Anne-Catherine Verwaerde.
Anne-Catherine Verwaerde : “Thanks to the success of regional audiences, the show took on a national dimension. We go all over France to find a craftsman, a guest house, a flea market and shed light on a house renovation. We look for pleasant places, with a certain originality, decoration in keeping with the times and objects that remain affordable. You have to be accessible to everyone while making you want to.”
Verwaerde transitioned to a career in antiques later in life, following a successful corporate path. Previously a marketing director for multinational firms, she found herself seeking a more fulfilling work-life balance. “I was traveling all the time. At 42, I got tired of it. I told myself that I was halfway through my life and that I hadn’t seen my son grow up. I wanted to have a job that resembles me and that I like,” she explained. She began frequenting flea markets on weekends, eventually turning her passion into a profession with the website www.mapetitebrocante.net. Eight years ago, she was then recruited for the television program Deal done, launching her television career.
When it comes to interior design, Verwaerde advocates for personal expression. “There is no fault of taste, as long as you feel good at home. Don’t follow the dictates of the catalogs, go shopping and mix the old and the new! Let your creativity flow. Judgments,we don’t care!” she advises. She embraces a diverse aesthetic in her own home, citing a combination of 1900 bistro chairs, a 1970 tulip table, and an Art Deco sideboard as an example of “a joyful and uninhibited eclecticism.”
Interiors airs Saturday, November 8 at 12:55 p.m.on France 3.
