Instagram integrates carousel editor into Edits app for iOS users
Instagram has integrated a dedicated carousel editor into its standalone video application, Edits, allowing users to combine photos and videos on a single canvas. The new functionality enables creators to utilize existing editing tools alongside features designed specifically for multi-slide formats, addressing a frequent request from the user community.
Expanded Creative Workflow
The update introduces specific capabilities for carousel projects, such as allowing photos to bleed across multiple slides and ensuring headlines carry over between frames. Creators can apply the application’s established toolset—including color grading, rotation, scale, layout, and cutout options—directly to their carousel content. Saved presets for fonts, audio, and colors remain consistent with those used in a creator's previous Edits projects.
Dan Moreno, a Design Engineer on the Edits team, noted the importance of the addition in the official announcement. When we asked creators what they hoped Edits could do next, carousels came up again and again,
Moreno stated.
Carousel Editor Launches on iOS for Instagram
The carousel editor is currently available for users on iOS, with support for Android devices still in development. Once a project is finished, creators have the option to post the carousel directly to Instagram from within the app or download the file for use on other platforms, bypassing the need for separate re-exporting or uploading processes.
Instagram launched the Edits app in April 2025, providing tools such as automatic captioning, background replacement, and AI-powered image-to-video animation. By incorporating the carousel editor, the application further expands the toolkit available to creators, aligning with the platform’s focus on the carousel format. Beauty creator @beautymavenraven has already utilized the new features to display makeup products through a combination of video slides, stickers, and cutout effects.
Strategic Data Trends
The expansion arrives as Instagram emphasizes carousels, which a Metricool analysis of nearly 25 million posts indicates generate nine times more saves than single-image posts. While carousel shares grew across all account sizes—including 131% growth for accounts with over a million followers—single-image engagement fell 45.98% year over year.
