Indra Launches New Weapons Division Amidst Global Rearmament
In response to rising global defense needs, Indra is establishing a dedicated weapons and ammunition division. This strategic move aims to strengthen the company’s position within the European defense sector during a period of increased international tension and rearmament.
New Division Details
Angel Escribano, Indra’s president, announced the creation of “Indra Weapon & Ammunition” at the company’s recent shareholders meeting. The new division will focus on key technologies vital for modern warfare, including guidance systems, unmanned weaponry, directed energy applications, and anti-drone systems.
“The armament market is acquiring significant strategic relevance, as has been demonstrated in the Ukraine conflict, where an expense exceeding 11,000 million euros in consumables is estimated. In this market there is a high foreign dependence and, in the case of Spain it is necessary an industrial leader consolidated in certain segments,”

This initiative reflects the growing demand for advanced defense capabilities. Global military expenditure reached a record high of $2.44 trillion in 2023, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Expansion and Future Plans
Beyond the new weapons division, Indra will broaden its reach internationally, with a focus on Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The company’s CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, revealed that Indra is evaluating the prospect of opening an office in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Indra also plans to expand in the aerospace sector through its subsidiary, Indra Space. This division aims to be a leading European player in designing, constructing, and operating dual-use satellites for civil and military purposes. Indra has set a target of 1 billion euros in revenue for this division by 2030.
The company is also bolstering its presence in the land vehicles sector for military use via its subsidiary, Indra Land Vehicles. This segment will capitalize on the increase in European defense spending. Indra is already involved in key projects such as the VCR 8×8 Dragon and Combat Support Vehicle (VAC), and it anticipates playing a key role in upcoming initiatives such as the modernization of Leopard combat vehicles.
Finally, Indra continues assessing potential acquisitions to enhance its portfolio, gain entry into new strategic markets, and provide value for its shareholders.
