Indonesian national Team Pursues Two New Forwards Amidst Naturalization Efforts

Teh Indonesian national football team is actively seeking to strengthen its squad by naturalizing two additional forwards. This move comes as the team prepares for crucial upcoming matches in the 4th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) chairman, Erick Thohir, confirmed the pursuit of these new players, stating that both have reportedly committed to joining the national team.

This development follows the ongoing naturalization process for Mauro Zijlstra, a young player who is expected to have his case presented to the House of Representatives (DPR) soon. Erick Thohir noted that while Zijlstra is only 20 years old, the modern football landscape sees many young talents like Lamine Yamal making significant impacts. Though, he emphasized a measured approach, suggesting Zijlstra should first gain experience with the U-23 team.

The specific identities of the two new prospective forwards remain undisclosed, but speculation has previously linked players such as Miliano Jonathans,Jairo Riedewald, and Dean Zandbergen to the Indonesian national team. The potential addition of these players could provide a significant boost to the squad, especially considering the likely absence of the injured forward, Romeny.
