Indonesian Ferry Missing in Java Sea With 243 Aboard, 1 Dead

At least one person has died and 102 others have been rescued from the stricken vessel.

The ship was traveling toward Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan when it lost contact in the Java Sea.

Rescuers deployed to the vessel’s last known position after it became unreachable. Officials subsequently confirmed that 102 individuals had been pulled from the water alive, while one person was confirmed dead. The fate and whereabouts of the remaining passengers and crew aboard the vessel remain unclear as rescue operations continue in the area.
