Indonesia deports two Chinese nationals for fake investor scam

Chinese Nationals Deported for Faked Investments

Two Chinese citizens were deported from Jakarta after immigration officials discovered they used fraudulent companies to obtain stay permits. Authorities are cracking down on immigration violations as Indonesia seeks to protect its economy.

Immigration Office Action

The Class I Immigration Office of North Jakarta took action against two Chinese nationals, identified as **ZM** and **ZY**. According to **Widya Anusa Brata**, head of the office’s Supervision and Immigration Enforcement Section, “The two foreigners were immediately deported to their country of origin since they had no sponsors for a stay permit.”

Fictitious Companies Uncovered

The Ministry of Investment confirmed that the companies **ZM** and **ZY** claimed to own were indeed fraudulent. Subsequently, both individuals were deported via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday, June 26. They are now barred from re-entering Indonesia for six months.

Details of the Arrest

Earlier that day, **Rendra Mauliansyah**, head of the immigration office, reported the arrest of the two foreigners in Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The arrests followed allegations of violating immigration rules. **ZM** held a limited stay permit (ITAS) as an investor and owner of PT LSTTI, a company he claimed was registered with the Ministry of Law.

Virtual Office Scheme

**ZM** stated that PT LSTTI was founded in April of this year. He failed to produce required documents, and the company had no operations or employees. Investigations showed PT LSTTI was a virtual office registered since November 18 of the previous year, showing no actual business activity. Roughly 40% of virtual offices are suspected of some form of fraud, according to recent industry reports (Statista 2024).

Ice Cream and Steel Deception

Meanwhile, **ZY**, also an ITAS holder, claimed ownership of PT DHI, purportedly an ice cream and steel distributor established in 2022 in Pinangsia, West Jakarta. Suspicion arose when **ZY** could not specify the number of employees. The listed business address turned out to be a deserted four-story shophouse.
