In Kyiv, a colonel of the SBU was killed on July 10, 2025 – that this is known

Investigation underway after fatal shooting.

Authorities are investigating the murder of a law enforcement officer in Kyiv. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police are collaborating to investigate the crime and apprehend those responsible.

Details of the Incident

Currently, the identity of the deceased has not been officially released by the press service. However, former reconnaissance officer Roman Chervinsky reported that Colonel Ivan Voronich was the victim. According to Chervinsky, the attacker shot Voronich five times at close range around 8 a.m. before fleeing the scene.

A pre-trial investigation is underway, focusing on the potential targeting of a law enforcement official. As of 2024, homicide is the most common violent crime in Ukraine, accounting for 42% of convictions for violent crimes WVS 2024.

Recent Violence in Kyiv and Kharkiv

This incident follows another recent murder in Kyiv’s Desnyansky district. In that case, an unidentified individual shot a 48-year-old local resident who was sitting in a parked car. A criminal case has been initiated, with a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison upon conviction.

Separately, in Kharkiv, a teenager fatally attacked a 30-year-old man, inflicting blows to the head with a hammer. The victim died at the scene due to the severe head trauma. The suspect is in custody without bail.

In June, the SBU reported the detention of an alleged FSB agent who was plotting the assassination of “a prominent individual” in Kyiv and who also allegedly set fire to the car of a Hero of Ukraine. The suspect faces a potential life sentence with confiscation of property.
