ILoveMemphis Arrested: SWAT Standoff & Mental Health Concerns
Rapper iLoveMemphis, best known for his 2015 hit “Hit the Quan,” was arrested early Tuesday morning in Plantation, Florida, following a six-hour standoff with a SWAT team that was livestreamed on Instagram, according to police reports and multiple news outlets.
The incident began Monday night when police responded to a home on Gatehouse Road, where iLoveMemphis, whose legal name is Richard Maurice Colbert, had barricaded himself inside. Hank VanBaalen, president of the homeowner’s association, told NBC Miami that the rapper was renting the property and appeared to be experiencing a crisis.
For several hours, authorities attempted to persuade Colbert to exit the residence peacefully. However, the 32-year-old rapper reportedly refused, and at times engaged with police while broadcasting the encounter live on Instagram. Clips circulating online show him making contentious statements toward law enforcement and, at one point, proclaiming himself to be divine.
The standoff concluded after a SWAT team breached the garage door, leading to Colbert’s apprehension without any reported injuries. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Broward County Main Jail, according to the Miami Herald.
Police have charged Colbert with written or electronic threats to kill, based on existing warrants, and resisting arrest without violence. During the incident, a dog was also removed from the property and turned over to a family member, police stated.
CBS News Miami reported that Colbert’s family had been attempting to secure mental health assistance for him in the days leading up to the standoff.
As of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, iLoveMemphis remains in custody without bond.
