Ilkley churches, reading groups, and The Grove Bookshop are partnering on “Buy a Book for ⁤Bradford,” a ‌community-wide initiative to ⁣collect new and nearly new children’s story ⁣books throughout December. the drive aims to provide reading materials to children in Bradford who have limited access, coinciding ⁢with the UK’s ⁢upcoming Year of Reading in⁣ 2026.

The campaign‌ seeks‌ to address literacy gaps and foster a love of reading among children ⁤in economically disadvantaged areas of Bradford. Donations of books for ⁤babies and toddlers will benefit Bradford Baby Bank, while titles for children‍ up to age 11 will be distributed through partner schools. Organizers hope the⁣ book donations will ⁢give Bradford children a head start as the nation prepares to celebrate reading in 2026.

Residents are encouraged to purchase one or two story books‌ while completing their holiday ⁢shopping. The Grove⁢ Bookshop has assembled⁢ a‌ list of age-appropriate suggestions and will serve as a central collection point for donated books.

To coordinate donations,‌ residents can contact Elizabeth Hall ⁣at⁤ hueydog@icloud.com. ‌”We hope ‌the ‍Year of Reading will be able to start off with some fun for Bradford children, from the generosity of people in Ilkley this month,” organizers stated.
