ilkley Residents Encouraged too Donate Books for Bradford Children This December
Ilkley churches, reading groups, and The Grove Bookshop are partnering on “Buy a Book for Bradford,” a community-wide initiative to collect new and nearly new children’s story books throughout December. the drive aims to provide reading materials to children in Bradford who have limited access, coinciding with the UK’s upcoming Year of Reading in 2026.
The campaign seeks to address literacy gaps and foster a love of reading among children in economically disadvantaged areas of Bradford. Donations of books for babies and toddlers will benefit Bradford Baby Bank, while titles for children up to age 11 will be distributed through partner schools. Organizers hope the book donations will give Bradford children a head start as the nation prepares to celebrate reading in 2026.
Residents are encouraged to purchase one or two story books while completing their holiday shopping. The Grove Bookshop has assembled a list of age-appropriate suggestions and will serve as a central collection point for donated books.
To coordinate donations, residents can contact Elizabeth Hall at hueydog@icloud.com. ”We hope the Year of Reading will be able to start off with some fun for Bradford children, from the generosity of people in Ilkley this month,” organizers stated.
