IKEA’s Wall-Mounted Speakers & Lamps – Design & Bluetooth 5.3

IKEA’s New Speakers Prioritize Style as Much as Sound

IKEA is launching a new speaker collection next month, marking it’s first as the end of its partnership with Sonos. These aren’t your typical black boxes; the new speakers are designed to seamlessly integrate into your home décor, functioning as both audio devices and stylish accents. many are intended to be wall-mounted or even serve as lamps.

The collection includes two new models – Solskydd and Kulglass – alongside fresh designs for the existing Fado table lamp and Vappeby speaker. All speakers utilize Bluetooth 5.3 for easy connectivity, allowing users to link multiple units to play the same audio source throughout their home. While this setup won’t provide stereo sound, it offers a convenient way to fill a space with music. All models can also connect to two sound sources concurrently.

Solskydd: Round Speakers in Multiple Sizes

The solskydd speaker comes in three sizes, resembling a modern wall-mounted tray. The smallest version (€49.99) is portable and features a 2.5-inch driver, reaching a maximum volume of 80.5 decibels. It boasts an orange housing with a block pattern and offers 25 hours of battery life.

The medium Solskydd (€69.99) includes a 1-inch tweeter and four 4-inch woofers, concealed behind a mint green board with a striped design. It produces up to 83.6 decibels and can be used freestanding or wall-mounted.

The largest Solskydd (€110.99) is exclusively wall-mountable and shares the tweeter/woofer configuration of the medium model, but delivers a louder maximum volume of 93.6 decibels. It features a plain orange finish and includes three EQ settings for sound customization.

Kulglass: A Lamp and Speaker Combination

For those seeking a dual-purpose device, the Kulglass (€110.99) integrates a speaker into the base of a unique lamp. The lampshade features a swirling design reminiscent of soft-serve ice cream. Equipped with a 1-inch tweeter and a 3.5-inch woofer, the Kulglass produces 82.6 decibels.

Unlike the Solskydd models, the Kulglass features a dedicated volume dial. The collection is completed by the new bilresa remote control (€19.99), available in beige, orange, and green.

All designs are the result of a collaboration with Swedish interior studio Teklan.

The Teklan x IKEA collection will be available in dutch IKEA stores and online starting in January.
