Repeat Offender Receives Prison Sentence After Appearing ⁢Drunk to Police Appointment

Douville, France – A 60-year-old man⁢ was sentenced to 11 months in prison Thursday after appearing intoxicated ‌for a scheduled ‌police appointment, ‌just one ‌week after being found near his vehicle with ‌a dog on his stomach ⁢and unable to complete a⁢ roadside breathalyzer test. the⁢ case highlights a recurring pattern‌ of alcohol-related offenses for the retiree, who has struggled with addiction since age 16.

the incident began on October 7th⁤ in Douville when alerted by a‍ passerby,⁣ gendarmes discovered the man ‌beside his car without a valid driver’s license. Unable to provide a breath sample due ‌to his level of ‍intoxication, a subsequent blood⁢ test revealed an alcohol concentration of 2.60 grams per liter of blood. The man was summoned​ to the local gendarmerie a week later,but arrived for his appointment ​while again under the influence,registering 0.94 grams per liter ⁢- still exceeding the legal⁢ limit for driving.

During his ‌October 16th appearance⁣ before the bergerac criminal court, the defendant claimed limited recollection of⁣ the initial incident, stating, “I didn’t​ drink much.” He further asserted a daily ‌consumption of “only ⁤seven beers a day, no⁣ strong ⁤drinks.” Though, investigators revealed a history of alcohol abuse and four⁣ prior convictions for similar offenses within the last eight years. The court ultimately resolute the severity of his ongoing addiction and repeated offenses warranted a custodial sentence.
