Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson to Reunite for New Luther Movie on Netflix
LOS ANGELES, CA – january 25, 2024 – Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson are set to reprise their roles as DCI John Luther and Alice Morgan, respectively, in a new luther feature film coming to Netflix. The project marks a return for Wilson, who did not appear in 2023’s Luther: The Fallen Sun.
The new thriller, written by Luther creator Neil Cross, will see a wave of brutal murders plague london, prompting Luther to be secretly reinstated. The central conflict revolves around Luther’s struggle to save the city while facing threats from all sides.
“Neil has yet again, created a wonderfully dark tale to bring us all back together,” said director Jamie Payne, who previously helmed episodes of the original series and Fallen Sun.”It’s a true joy to be back on the streets of Lutherland with the supreme talents that are Idris Elba and Dermot Crowley. I am also thrilled to be reunited with the brilliant and hazardous Alice Morgan played by the extraordinarily talented ruth wilson.”
the original Luther series, which ran for five seasons throughout the 2010s, followed the obsessive and brooding detective John Luther (Elba). Wilson’s Alice Morgan, a psychopathic research doctor, first appeared in the show’s inaugural season and developed a complex, co-dependent relationship with Luther over three seasons. Dermot Crowley will also return as DCI Schenk, initially Luther’s antagonist who later became a key ally.
“Luther,Alice and Schenk are more than characters to me,they’re family,” stated Cross. “I never stop wondering where they are, what’s become of them … and what horrors might be stirring in the shadows of London while Luther’s not around. so we decided to get together and find out what happens next.”
The film is being produced by Chernin Entertainment, Neil Cross, Idris Elba and Gina Carter (via their 22Summers banner), and Tim Lewis. Production is scheduled to begin in February.
