At Nagoya International School (NIS), we firmly believe that exceptional learning is rooted in exceptional teaching, and that teaching flourishes through collaborative effort. This week, our dedicated Primary School team participated in a comprehensive two-day workshop focused on the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP).
The workshop served to deepen the team’s understanding of how the PYP framework nurtures students as inquisitive, self-assured, and globally-minded learners. Teachers engaged in explorations of inquiry-based teaching methodologies, innovative learning strategies, and the creation of supportive classroom environments – all designed to cultivate the essential skills and dispositions students need to thrive.
A key component of the workshop involved reflective practice, allowing educators to consider how these principles are already being implemented within their classrooms and throughout the broader NIS community. This shared professional development experience reinforced the school’s commitment to the IB mission and empowers our teachers to effectively bring the PYP to life for every student.
NIS extends sincere gratitude to Erin Oliver-Boutitie, the PYP Coordinator at Canadian Academy (Kobe), for expertly leading the workshop. We also thank the educators from Enishi International School (Nagoya) for their valuable participation. It’s through these collaborative partnerships that we collectively strengthen the IB learning community.
“Grate learning begins with great teaching – and great teaching grows through collaboration.”
