Hyperliquid ETF Offers Brokerage Access to HYPE Token

Hyperliquid ETF Offers Brokerage Access to HYPE Token

October 21, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

A Hyperliquid ETF introduces brokerage-account access to HYPE, the native asset of a derivatives exchange that priced an Mideast military strike while traditional financial markets remained closed for the weekend.

Weekend Trading Without a Closing Bell

When US and Israeli forces struck Iran on Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was shut for the weekend. Hyperliquid kept operating. Its oil contract traded past $111 a barrel, pricing the geopolitical shock nearly 48 hours ahead of traditional venues. Bloomberg has cited the exchange’s order book as a weekend oil reference.

The venue runs its matching engine directly on its own blockchain. Half of its ten busiest markets track non-crypto assets, reducing its reliance on digital asset volume swings.

Hyperliquid Uses Trading Fees for HYPE Buybacks

Unlike bitcoin, which relies on a fixed supply schedule, HYPE ties its token economics directly to platform utility. Hyperliquid directs 97% to 99% of its trading fees into automated HYPE buybacks, according to June 2026 data from ASXN Hyperscreener. Total buybacks have already surpassed $1.5 billion.

The code-enforced repurchase mechanism works similarly to a corporate share buyback. Each purchase reduces the circulating supply, though the velocity of those buybacks depends entirely on ongoing trading activity.

Weighing Custody Against Platform Risks

A spot Hyperliquid ETF holds the token on behalf of investors, allowing purchases through standard brokerages like Fidelity or Charles Schwab without requiring a crypto wallet or private key. The structure mirrors spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds that began trading following SEC approval in January 2024.

The wrapper adds a management fee absent from direct ownership. HYPE has experienced sharp drawdowns, founder token unlocks will release additional supply on a fixed schedule, and the platform is new. Two market manipulation attempts in 2025 required centralized validator intervention, according to reports from PANews and Halborn.
