Huawei releases Mate 90 series with 6-meter water resistance claim
Huawei Mate 90 Series Launch Details and Water Resistance
Huawei officially released the Mate 90 series in China on Thursday, October 1, 2026, introducing a flagship lineup that includes the standard Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, and Mate 90 RS models, tekno.kompas.com reported. The standard Huawei Mate 90 carries an unusual IP68 certification that Huawei claims protects the device in non-flowing water at a depth of 6 meters for 30 minutes in laboratory conditions, exceeding typical 1.5-meter ratings.
For photography, tekno.kompas.com stated that the model uses a 50-megapixel primary rear camera with an RYYB sensor, optical image stabilization, and a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0.
Mate 90 Pro Max Specifications and Modular Camera
At the top of the lineup, the Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max introduces a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display with a 2.5K+ resolution, peak brightness reaching 12,000 nits, and a protection layer of Kunlun Glass, ANTARA News reported. ANTARA News noted that the Pro Max variant relies on a 50-megapixel primary camera with a 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, optical image stabilization, and an f/1.4 to f/4.0 variable aperture, paired with a 40-megapixel ultra-wide lens and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens providing 4x optical zoom, 8x optical-quality zoom, and 100x digital zoom. detikInet also reported that the Pro Max runs on HarmonyOS 7, is powered by either the Kirin 9050 chip with 12GB of RAM or the Kirin 9050 Pro chip with 16GB of RAM, and packs a 6,800 mAh battery supporting 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The Pro Max lineup also includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, eSIM support, and an IP68/IP69 rating, shipping in Crystal White, Emerald Green, Obsidian Black, and Rose Gold color options. The device’s chipset delivers a 13 percent performance improvement over previous Mate generations, while its front camera setup combines a 13-megapixel ultra-wide autofocus lens with 3D depth-sensing capabilities. Pricing for the Pro Max spans from 9,499 yuan for the 12GB/512GB configuration up to 9,999 yuan for the 16GB/512GB version, with the Collector’s Edition priced at 10,999 yuan for 16GB/512GB and 12,999 yuan for the 16GB/1TB variant utilizing Basalt Kunlun Glass protection.
For high-end photography, the Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition and Mate 90 RS Master Edition support an optional modular camera accessory called the Huawei Ruiying Z10, according to detikInet. DetikInet reported that this accessory functions as an independent 1-inch RYYB sensor offering 10x continuous optical zoom, a focal range of 24 to 240mm, and an f/2.0 to f/4.5 variable aperture. Huawei prices the Ruiying Z10 accessory at 5,999 yuan, nearly matching the cost of flagship smartphones, while pricing for the Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max in China starts at 9,499 yuan for the 12GB/512GB configuration and reaches 12,999 yuan for the 16GB/1TB Collector’s Edition, as outlined by detikInet and ANTARA News.
Huawei Maintains Flat OLED Screens and Two-Tone Aesthetics
Ahead of the official rollout, leaks detailed across various reporting platforms pointed to design constants carried over from previous generations. Jambi Independent reported that leaks shared by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo revealed a flat OLED screen layout featuring three punch-holes at the top for selfie cameras and 3D facial recognition sensors—a structural choice Huawei maintained through the Mate 60 and Mate 80 series. Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia noted that the four variants display a two-tone aesthetic with choices of green, pink, black, and white for the standard models, while maintaining large circular or octagonal camera islands on the rear panel. High-resolution renders and protective case leaks further highlighted a segmented rear panel divided into a larger upper section and smaller lower section, alongside a protruding central spine on the Mate 90 RS extending downward from the camera module to house an unspecified opening.

Market availability for the Mate 90 series is currently centered in China following the October 1 debut, with specific international release dates and pricing structures for global markets remaining unannounced by Huawei.
