Spanish author Inés Martín Rodrigo has shared two recent book recommendations-one exploring the complexities of love and another confronting mortality-offering readers poignant selections for reflection.
Rodrigo highlighted Jacobo Bergareche‘s ‘Los días perfectos’ as a humorous and insightful take on romance, praising its refreshing twist on traditional vows: “hasta que el tedio nos separe” (“until boredom separates us”) instead of “hasta que la muerte nos separe” (“until death do us part”). She notes she frequently recommends the novel, but cautions readers to temporarily set aside any preconceived notions.
Turning to themes of loss, Rodrigo championed Giani Stuparich’s ‘La isla’, a book recommended by her father. She described the novel as an elegant portrayal of a father facing imminent death and finding solace in reconnection with his son. Rodrigo’s connection to the book is deeply personal, recalling how she discovered it at Librería Méndez in Madrid-a refuge during difficult times-where the owners grew to know and support her.
