House of Guinness Irish subtitles ‘step in right direction’ for language

Netflix Adds‌ Irish-Language Subtitles to ‘House of​ Guinness‘ Series

DUBLIN – Netflix ​has made its new historical⁣ drama, House of Guinness, accessible to Irish-language speakers wiht ⁣the addition of subtitles as gaeilge, a move hailed as a positive step​ for the language’s visibility‌ and preservation. The series,which explores the story of the Guinness family dynasty,now offers subtitles in Irish alongside its existing English audio.

The inclusion of Irish-language subtitles reflects‍ a growing demand for ​content in the language and⁢ acknowledges its importance to Irish culture and identity. The move allows viewers who prefer to watch content in irish to engage with the series, which ⁢is deeply rooted ⁣in ⁢Irish history and filmed extensively⁢ in Ireland alongside other popular Netflix productions like Wednesday ⁤and Vikings: Valhalla.

“The Irish language⁣ is‍ such a vital ‍part of ⁤the country’s⁢ culture and identity, and making the series accessible in‍ this way allows us to celebrate that heritage ​and reach⁣ those viewers who prefer to watch as gaeilge,” said Steven Knight, creator of House of Guinness.

House of ⁣Guinness is set in 19th-century ⁣Dublin⁣ and New York, beginning after the death of Sir Benjamin guinness ⁤and focusing on the impact of his ⁢will on his four⁤ children: Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben. The series also portrays the ⁢lives of Dubliners connected ⁣to the Guinness brewery.⁣ The cast ‍includes Anthony Boyle (as Arthur Guinness),Louis Partridge,Emily Fairn,and Fionn O’Shea.

Netflix stated that the addition of Irish-language subtitles aims to honour the show’s Irish roots ⁢and provide accessibility for viewers who ⁤wish to⁣ experience the story in their native language.
