hong Kong & Taiwan Score High on Global “Smartness” Ranking
HONG KONG – A new report analyzing global intelligence, released by tradingplatforms.co.uk, places Taiwan and Hong Kong among the world’s leading nations in cognitive ability and innovation. The ranking, unveiled today, combines data from the 2022 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) International Assessment Program for Student Competency (PISA), scientific research output per capita in 2024, and reported average IQ scores.
The report defines “intelligence” as a country’s ability to “effectively learn, create and apply knowledge,” noting that a “strong education system provides young people with the necessary skills, scientific research drives exploration, and cognitive abilities support the foundation for innovation and problem solving.”
Taiwan secured a total score of 66.3 points, boasting an average IQ of 107.1.Its median PISA assessment score in 2022 reached 533 points.Hong Kong achieved a score of 60.8 points, demonstrating leading scientific research output with an average of 548.5 scientific papers published per million residents. While Hong Kong’s 2022 PISA assessment scored 520 points, it ranks fourth overall.
Singapore followed with a score of 81.6, and Switzerland ranked third with 72.2 points,driven by an average IQ of 100.8 and high research output. Singapore’s 2022 PISA test results averaged 560 points, ranking first globally in that assessment.
The study analyzed 77 countries to determine the rankings.
