hofstra women’s Basketball Suffers Late-Game Defeat to Bucknell, 63-57
LEWISBURG, PA – A furious second-half rally came up short as the Hofstra University women’s basketball team fell to Bucknell University, 63-57, on Wednesday evening at Sojka Pavilion. The Pride battled back from a 17-point second-quarter deficit, trimming the Bison led to as few as two points in the fourth quarter, but ultimately couldn’t overcome a late Bucknell surge.
Bucknell jumped to an early lead, fueled by a 14-0 run in the frist quarter, and extended it to as many as 18 points in the third. Hofstra responded with consistent pressure, out-rebounding Bucknell 37-32 and shooting 39.1% from the field.
marianne Angoi led hofstra in scoring, while Zyare Gooden came off the bench to contribute a game-high eight rebounds and six points. Sana’a Garrett dished out three assists for the Pride. Emma von Essen was held without a three-pointer for the first time as March 2, 2025, against William & Mary. Sandra Magolico contributed three crucial free throws late in the game.
Reese Zemitis paced Bucknell with a career-high 21 points, followed by Isabella Casey with 15. Anna Kunzwiler led the Bison with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss,Hofstra demonstrated resilience in a challenging road contest. The Pride now holds a 14-7 all-time record against Bucknell.
Hofstra will next compete in the 2025 Discover Puerto Rico Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico, facing #9 Maryland on Thursday, November 27, at 3 p.m. (ET)/4 p.m. (AT), and East Carolina on Friday, November 28, at 12:30 p.m. (ET)/1:30 p.m. (AT).
