Atlanta, GA - August 11, 2025 – U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. today visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters in Atlanta following a shooting on Friday that resulted in the death of DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose. The visit underscored the agency’s commitment to supporting its personnel and honoring the officer’s sacrifice.
The shooting has prompted a review of security measures at the Roybal Campus, where most CDC personnel are currently teleworking this week. The incident has deeply affected the CDC community and prompted an outpouring of support for Officer Rose’s family. The HHS is providing ongoing support to CDC staff and their families during this difficult time.
Secretary kennedy toured the Roybal campus, accompanied by HHS Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill and CDC Director Susan Monarez, observing damage including shattered windows at multiple buildings and the main guard booth. He then met with DeKalb County Police Chief Greg padrick and privately with officer Rose’s widow, offering condolences and reaffirming the agency’s commitment to honoring his bravery and service.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting at CDC’s Atlanta campus that took the life of officer David Rose. We stand with his wife and three children and the entire CDC family,” Secretary Kennedy stated in a post on X (formerly twitter).
Additional safety and security measures are being implemented before CDC personnel return to the Roybal Campus. The incident is a stark reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers protecting critical infrastructure.
