HeyMax First access fees now payable with Singapore credit cards

October 26, 2026 Priya Shah – Business Editor Business

HeyMax members can now pay access fees for the platform’s Fly Now, Earn Later facility using Singapore-issued credit cards with a 3% non-refundable processing fee, which milelion.com reported creates an effective purchase cost of 0.73 cents per mile when paired with a 4 miles-per-dollar card and a PayNow cash refund of the underlying fee.

Access Fee Payment Mechanics and Tier Structures

The HeyMax First facility involves a membership fee that is waived for the first year alongside an access fee paid upon withdrawing Max Miles. This access fee is fully refunded via PayNow when the borrowed miles are returned. Previously restricted to PayNow transfers, the addition of credit card processing codes transactions under MCC 5311 for Department Stores.

Every member receives a complimentary HeyMax First Silver membership by default, featuring a 30,000-mile pool and a 3-cent access fee per mile. Users can upgrade to higher tiers to expand their miles pool and reduce the per-mile access fee. The Gold tier offers a 100,000-mile pool at 2.7 cents per mile for S$299, Platinum provides a 300,000-mile pool at 2.5 cents for S$699, and the Reserve tier grants a 1,000,000-mile pool at 2.3 cents for S$1,999.

Operating at the Silver tier requires borrowing 30,000 Max Miles with an access fee of S$900. Including the 3% processing fee, the total charge reaches S$927. Settling this amount with a card earning 4 miles per dollar on MCC 5311 generates 3,708 miles. Repaying the borrowed Max Miles triggers the full S$900 refund via PayNow, leaving a net out-of-pocket cost of S$27 for 3,708 miles, or 0.73 cents per mile.

Membership Tier Access Fee Per Mile Processing Total (S$) Earned Miles (4 mpd)
Silver 3.0¢ 927.00 3,708
Gold 2.7¢ 2,781.00 11,124
Platinum 2.5¢ 7,725.00 30,900
Reserve 2.3¢ 23,690.00 94,760

External Earning Activities Limit Drawdown Velocity

Repayments cannot be made using borrowed Max Miles. Users must source replacement miles from external earning activities. This restriction establishes a definitive speed limit on drawdown velocity. Once a member exhausts their previously earned Max Miles balance, subsequent drawdowns cannot be immediately cleared, leaving the associated access fee parked with the platform until new miles are earned independently.

Silver tier membership yields a higher volume of credit card spend per earned Max Mile compared to Reserve. Because earned miles act as the primary operational bottleneck, a higher access fee rate allows a smaller pool of earned miles to generate approximately 30% more card spend than the lowest fee rate at the Reserve tier.

MCC 5311 Eligibility Supports Monthly Miles Acquisition

MCC 5311 eligibility opens participation to at least eight different cards offering 4 miles per dollar, supporting a combined monthly cap of S$7,450. Such volume enables the acquisition of up to 29,800 miles monthly at the 0.73-cent valuation, assuming sufficient earned Max Miles exist to sustain the necessary borrow-and-repay cycle. Additional rates up to 6 mpd or 8 mpd are accessible through specific deposit-linked banking relationships.

Beyond miles acquisition, routing transactions through this channel assists in meeting minimum monthly spend requirements for bonus interest tiers on deposit accounts like the UOB One, OCBC 360, and Maybank SaveUp. Cashback alternatives such as the Citi SMRT Card offer a 2% spread on online spending when meeting baseline criteria.

Financial institutions typically scrutinize inorganic spend and round-trip cash movements. Broad merchant category exclusions could potentially disrupt other platform services, such as voucher purchases, if lenders act against the MCC designation.

The HeyMax First access fee payment update remains active for Singapore-issued cards, delivering lower acquisition costs than alternative bill payment services while depending entirely on ongoing credit card reward policies.
