Tesla Pilots ‘No Charging fee’ Program for Select Supercharger Users
Oslo, Norway – November 27, 2025 – Tesla is initiating a pilot program in Norway offering select Supercharger users the ability to charge thier vehicles without incurring any additional fees. The program, currently limited to a small group of drivers, aims to incentivize off-peak charging times and further integrate tesla vehicles with renewable energy sources.
The initiative addresses a growing concern among EV owners regarding charging costs, notably as electricity prices fluctuate. By eliminating charging fees during specific periods, Tesla hopes to balance grid load, promote sustainable energy consumption, and enhance the overall ownership experience. Participants in the pilot program will receive notifications via the Tesla app detailing available no-charge windows, typically during periods of high renewable energy production.
This move builds upon Tesla’s existing Supercharger network, which currently comprises over 54,000 stalls globally as of Q3 2025. While Supercharging has traditionally involved per-kWh fees, Tesla has experimented with various pricing models, including time-of-use rates, to optimize network utilization. Norway was chosen for the pilot due to its high penetration of electric vehicles – exceeding 80% of new car sales in 2024 – and its robust renewable energy infrastructure, primarily hydropower.
The long-term implications of this program could be meaningful. If prosperous, Tesla may expand the no-charge initiative to other regions and potentially integrate it with its virtual power plant (VPP) efforts, allowing Tesla vehicles to contribute to grid stability while simultaneously reducing charging costs for owners. Further details regarding the program’s duration and expansion plans are expected to be released by Tesla in the coming months.
