It’s a common trajectory for television critics who frequently appear on talk shows: they inevitably become integrated into the celebrity circuit. Shared meals, casual conversations, and repeated encounters with the same personalities can blur the lines between objective observer and insider. Before long, the critic risks losing thier sharp, outsider outlook and becoming just another commentator within the entertainment industry.

Hendriks’s Advice to Vlam

Hélène Hendriks still considers Victor Vlam a sharp commentator, but she believes he needs to be mindful of his position. “His greatest talent is that with a poker face, he can articulate his opinions and dares to say anything about someone, whether it’s critical or complimentary,” Hendriks stated in a recent interview with New Revu. she highlighted his ability to speak his mind without concern for social desirability, a rare quality in the television world.

Maintaining Independence

“He doesn’t consider how he comes across in terms of social desirability, but he simply says what comes to mind,” Hendriks elaborated. “A great strength of his is that he doesn’t mince words. He says indiscriminately what he thinks. It’s quiet arduous to find people like that in the television world.”

Hendriks offered a crucial piece of advice to Victor: “He must now ensure that he maintains a sufficient distance from famous Dutch people so that he can retain his independence and continue to speak freely. he should not become too friendly with everyone.”

When asked if she considered herself his discoverer, hendriks replied, “I wasn’t on television before, but I was charmed by his podcast, ‘De Communicado’s.’ Since he is a communication expert, I assumed he could talk well. And that has proven to be true: you hardly hear him say ‘uh’ or ‘um.’ I always like him.”
