Man Arrested After​ tear Gas Incident Disrupts Heathrow Airport

London, UK – A 57-year-old man is in police​ custody ⁣following an​ incident at Heathrow airport’s Terminal⁢ 4 yesterday evening, where a substance believed to be ⁣tear⁤ gas caused a temporary evacuation of the check-in ​area.

The disruption began when emergency services⁣ were alerted to a “potential hazardous materials incident,”⁤ leading to the‍ three-hour closure of ⁢the check-in ‌hall.According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, the⁢ man was arrested ⁣on suspicion of possession of a firearm (CS spray) and ​causing a public nuisance.

During a search of the area, officers recovered a canister identified as containing what ‍is believed ‌to be CS ⁤spray – a common riot control agent⁣ also known as ⁢tear gas.Police⁢ report​ that the⁢ substance is thought to have caused irritation to those present ‍in the airport.

CS spray is known⁤ to cause a burning sensation to the eyes, throat, lungs, and skin upon exposure.‌ Approximately 20 individuals reported‌ experiencing ⁣these symptoms and received treatment from paramedics at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that ‌none of the injuries were life-threatening or life-changing.

“Met officers located a ‌cannister of what is believed⁤ to be CS spray. It is thought that this substance caused a reaction to those within the⁢ airport,” the police stated.

The examination is ongoing,but police have confirmed that the incident is‍ not currently being treated as terrorism-related. The arrested man remains in custody as enquiries ⁣continue.
