Healthy Cheese Choices: Benefits for Liver & Overall Health

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

This ⁤Amazing Cheese Is ‘Great⁣ for the Liver,’ According to⁤ Nutrition Experts

Popular cheeses like The Laughing Cow and Kiri are ‍facing ⁤scrutiny for their nutritional‌ profiles, according to the food scan app Yuka. ⁤The site melty.fr reports that both cheeses received ⁤poor ratings due to high salt ⁣and saturated fat content, and also the presence of additives. This contrasts sharply with harder ‌cheeses like Emmental and Comté, which are viewed more favorably.

However, not all cheeses are created equal when it comes to health.Dietitian-nutritionist alexandra Murcier highlights several cheeses beneficial for nutritional balance. Mozzarella stands out due to its high water content (nearly half ⁣its composition), while cottage cheese impresses with its protein richness⁣ and low fat content – a result of milk fermentation and ⁢whey removal, leaving primarily ⁤slow-digesting casein protein for optimized satiety. Emmental also earns a recommendation as a flavorful addition‌ to salads.‌ Feta, made from sheep or goat’s milk, is lower in calories but should be consumed in moderation due to its salt⁤ content.

For optimal liver health,⁢ Professor Patrick Marcellin, a‌ hepatology specialist, recommends limiting cheese consumption ‌to one to two servings daily and prioritizing low-fat varieties. He specifically identifies fresh‌ goat⁢ cheese or sheep cheese as the best cheese for the liver.Recommended ⁢varieties include Petit Billy, care,Chavroux, and P’tit Basque.

Professor Marcellin emphasizes that liver ⁤health ⁢requires a holistic approach.⁢ He suggests ⁢balanced, frequent meals, reduced intake of fatty and‍ sugary foods, and regular physical‍ activity to⁢ optimize lipid metabolism. Incorporating moderate portions of low-fat cheeses into a varied diet allows for both taste enjoyment and sustained liver health.
